A live performance of February’s Lost Child, quite different from the one out soon on the EP from SLEEPERS. This version is jammed in real time with a BeatStep Pro, an MS20 mk 2, a Boog, A MonoPoly, and some eurorack stuff . It’s what happened, it got dark.

Holographic Fool [ambient jam version]
In anticipation of the upcoming release of Recovered Artifacts 93′ – 97′ on Sleepers Records … I decided to explore variations on each track in a series of live jams. Here’s track #1 – Holographic Fool – in a very different form than it appears on vinyl. Hope you enjoy it!

Steve Angstrom – Recovered Artifacts 93′ – 97′ [SLEEPERS10]
SLEEPERS 10 now available for pre order from Triple Vision and online shops soon. https://distribution.triplevision.nl/release/SLPR010/
A collection of 6 tracks rescued from the archives, over 25 years ago I wrote a lot of tracks which were at the same time I was touring and releasing with the band TimeShard . Some tracks I was asked to make for art projects and installations, or were explorations which somehow got buried.
SLEEPERS Records asked me to look through the archives and together we picked out our favourite 6 from the weird and disparate sounds on offer.
These tracks represent very well what I was creating for the early 90s free festival and party scene. Now you can have a taste of the weird and wonderful haphazard sounds I was making.

SONG – The Myriadic
Here’s a track I’ve been performin live recently and I enjoyed the slightly wayward nature of the Live sound – so I recorded it as I performed it and added an intense video.
If you’d like to buy the track you can get it hereIf you have photo-sensitive epilepsy or related neurological condition pleast don’t watch (just listen), as there are some parts which may overstimulate your visual cortex!

Live in Berlin at OHM club
A glimpse of Steve Angstrom performing live at OHM club Berlin.
These tracks were all originally created way back in the 90s and were resurrected for the upcoming Sleepers Records vinyl-only release and this live performance.
Bringing these tracks back was tricky because the old equipment and the people involved are so temperamental!. So I spent a lot of time working out how to make the tracks similar but also give myself scope to play them and have fun with them. It’s not that easy to re-create something which happened spontaneously 25 years ago.
I used the original tracks as an inspiration and tried to stay as close to the ancient weird spirit as possible, and it worked and now I’m glad to say this live set is going on the road.

Steve Angstrom – live performance at Ohm Tresor Berlin 8th Sept
I’ll be live in performance in Berlin on the 8th of September, come along!
This set is all comprised of reclaimed music from the 90s which I recorded onto old DAT tapes and 8 tracks, then put into deep storage for 20 years.
They are due to be released on Sleepers Records as “Steve Angstrom -Sleepers Recovered Artefacts ’93 – ’97”.To celebrate the release I’m performing those songs and also a bunch more live on
To perform them live I’ve spent months trying to figure out what I played and then re-creating those basslines and drum parts and entering them into my newfangled hardware sequencers. All live and mostly analog make sure you check out Steve Angstrom Live in Berlin at the Ohm clubTickets available here : https://www.residentadvisor.net/events/1119543

Ableton 10 – Calcium skin
Many users liked the old calcium skin for Ableton Live, and find the new skins for Live 10 a bit gloomy and lacking contrast. So I remade Calcium skin for Live 10. There are some differences becuase Live 10 has different transport buttons that the earlier versions, but it’s as close as I could get.
Live 10 skins are much easier to edit than Live 9 skins (which required a hex editor). Live 10 skins are in an XML format and each element is named. If you want to change anything about this skin simply open up in a text editor and start tweaking. It’ll probably break but that’s how we learn eh?Download Angstromium Skin

Recovered Artefacts ’93 – ’97
So, I’ve been digging through my music archives from the 90’s! All the tapes are really mysteriouly labeled, a voyage of endless discovery!
Sleepers Records got in touch and asked to release a few tracks, so we’ve picked out 6 from the thousands available and they’ll be coming out on a Vinyl-only release later this year.
Come see me perform these songs live in Berlin on the 8th of September 2018

Free Ableton Live Pack – Xmas Presets
Free Ableton Live pack. To celebrate the festive season here’s a bunch of FREE & amazing instrument racks featuring Ableton’s Operator instrument
Ten free Instrument Racks for Ableton Live
These racks come from an
upcomingNow Available pack called Vintage Operators, which uses Ableton’s Operator synth to make vintage inspired synth sounds reminiscent of the 1970s and 80s. Yes, it’s a weird idea. The full pack contains over 120 live racks featuring Operator with 21 leads, 28 basses, 34 “keyboard” patches, FX synth patches and more.Anyway, that’s another story, here’s your Xmas Presets (Free!)
Download Free Ableton Live PackAudio Preview
The Presets
- Sub Dub Bass 4 – A deep bass guitar, potentially used in Dub but in the audio demo I play something a bit funkier with it
- CV Funkbass X – A funky wah bass sound. Some trickery gives it a designed unstable sound making it seem like your CV has problems!
- Super Deep Juno Bass – a multi saw bass. Using stacked voices to get something in the style of a Juno bass, but deeper.
- Italian Space Organ – it’s a Farfisa sound with a bunch of weird reverb. Here its demoed with a recreation of a J.M. Jarre Oxygene riff.
- 80’s belltones – a classic FM use but here I stack the Operators so one chain handles dissonance / atonality and the other the consonance / tonality.
- Strange Piano – its a dark electric piano type sound with analog synthetic overtones.
- Crumpen Slammer – it makes feedback distorted guitar type noises when you lift a key. Well, not really but it’s that kind of sound.
- 70s Pad and Lead – Jarre style pad and lead. Powerful mapping allows you to crossfade the voices and play pads and leads with deep control
- Traditional Unconvincing Flute – an analog synth style flute. Occasionally 1970’s era Tangerine dream would use something like this.
- Chu’s Store – sample and hold effects – based slightly around Vangelis’s work on Blade runner. Especially Chu’s Store!
